Primeros meses en París / First months in Paris

ME QUERÍA MORIR.

Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you about my first months in this city. As many of you already know, I received a scholarship to work as a language assistant in Paris. From October until April I am working at two French public schools where I help students improve their speaking skills in Spanish.

I arrived at Paris with my parents on the last week of Sept. We traveled by car, since it's only 1000 km away from Barcelona. I didn't know Paris, so we spent the first week visiting everything. My brother joined us as he came from Brussels. After my parents left, I started my job for real. I WANTED TO DIE. Thanks God they kept us entertained with meetings and stuff like that, so I gained confidence with the schools and my students. When I introduced myself to the guys, there was a variety of stories. The question "Madame, do you speak French?" was a classic. Some students showed interest in knowing what my age is, what I like or how many languages I speak. Some others were not even interested in knowing where I come from. First lesson learnt: PATIENCE. During the first two weeks I watched every class in order to identify their level and the topics they talked about. After the Toussaint holidays (two looong weeks that allowed me to visit my brother in Brussels) I started to have my own little groups of students. Some days, everything turned out amazing, but some others I ended up wanting to kill someone. On one hand, working as a teacher is motivating because you get other teachers' support and you can build respect and love in your students. On the other hand, sometimes kids can be really annoying and selfish. As in every job, it is all about balancing.

Overall I must say that so far so good. I am enjoying my new job and I am willing to keep learning with and from my students. Now I will show you a selection of pictures I took during the first months. I didn't include the Palace of Versailles because there is too much content to be included in this post. I hope you like it and see you soon! :)

Bye-bye 2014! Welcome 2015!
